I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1)-(3) All the Government’s election policies must be seen in the context of its commitment to respect existing legal rights and legitimate expectations. All applications for mining and petroleum tenements within national parks and nature reserves will be processed in accordance with the provisions of the relevant legislation. The status of applications that have been processed prior to the election and the rights that attach to mining and petroleum titles already issued is the subject of an interdepartmental review, which the Minister for State Development and the Minister for the Environment and Heritage are assessing. Once it has been completed and all legal obligations determined, the specific detail relating to the implementation of the policy will be addressed. The new Government understands the need to protect our unique environment and will ensure our policies make significant changes to the approach of the previous Government.
