I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) The Government has endorsed the recommendation of the Health Reform Committee that will see major development of hospitals in Perth and regional Western Australia. A new tertiary hospital will be built in the south metropolitan area, King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women will be rebuilt at a new location and four metropolitan general hospitals will be redeveloped at Armadale, Joondalup, Rockingham-Kwinana and Swan Districts. A decision will be made later this year on the location of a major northern tertiary hospital, which will bring together Royal Perth and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospitals. The Health Review Committee has also recommended that King Edward Memorial Hospital be rebuilt at this location. A new regional hospital is planned for Port Hedland and redevelopment of Albany and Broome hospitals will be undertaken to achieve regional resource centre status. Bunbury and Kalgoorlie hospitals will also be redeveloped over time in addition to the Geraldton Regional Hospital development currently under way. Point of Order Hon PETER FOSS: Although there is no obligation on a member to answer a question, the member is obliged to be relevant, if he or she chooses to do that.
