For the Government departments within my portfolio, I advise the following:
For the Department of Education and Training
(1) No
(2) Not applicable
For the Department of Education Services
(1) Yes
(2) Discussions with the universities have been aimed at the preparation of a miscellaneous amendments bill to deal with a backlog of requests, dating back to at least 2001, from the universities for amendments to their Acts of establishment. There is a request from the Joint Standing Committee on Delegated Legislation for a uniform process related to the tabling and disallowance of university statutes and by-laws. The Department of Treasury and Finance has requested a uniform scheme related to borrowing.
