VERVE ENERGY AND SYNERGY —
CORRESPONDENCE WITH PREMIER
723. Mr W.J. JOHNSTON to the
Premier:
I have a supplementary question. Will the Premier correct the
record on his statement to the house last night that this letter asked for
Verve and Synergy to be merged?

AnswerView source ↗

I do not recall ever saying ''asked'' for it; I
might have said ''called'' for it. The letter was written at a
time when there was debate. As the member for Cannington acknowledged, at least
my view on this has been consistent for many years. The letter did not
specifically ask for it. The way the letter is written makes it clear that it
is a government decision but that it was clearly something under consideration.
It was a matter of public debate during the time. No, the letter does not
specifically ask the government to do it; but it is a persuasive argument in
favour of amalgamation. That is the way I interpret it. Indeed, I have to say I
was surprised at the time to receive this unsolicited letter on the issue from
Verve and Synergy.
