LATE-NIGHT
TRAINS — PASSENGER NUMBERS
4. Hon KEN TRAVERS to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
(1) What is
the average number of passengers using the late-night trains that the
government plans to cancel?
(2) What is the average number of passengers using these
late-night trains in summer and winter?
(3) What is the average number of people using these
late-night trains to travel into Perth?
(4) What is the average number of people using these
late-night trains to travel away from Perth?
(5) Is there
any difference between the average number of people using the trains leaving at
1.00 am or 1.15 am and the trains that leave at 2.00 am or 2.15 am; and, if
yes, what is it?

I thank Hon Ken Travers for this
question.
(1)–(5) The
Public Transport Authority has advised that an average of 80 passengers per
train use the late-night services. It is acknowledged that late-night patronage
is currently higher —
Several members interjected.
The PRESIDENT : Order! Bad start, everybody. You do not
try to shout over everybody else in the chamber to make yourself heard. Wait
until it is your turn, and everybody gets a turn.
Hon JIM CHOWN : I will start again. The Public
Transport Authority has advised that an average of 80 passengers per train use
the late-night services. It is acknowledged that late-night patronage is
currently higher due to the overwhelmingly successful Fringe World Festival,
the Perth International Arts Festival and The
Giants . The government will continue to support major local events and
separately monitor passenger numbers until the services end in April. To
provide Hon Ken Travers with data in an easily legible format as requested, the
PTA will require additional time and requests that the question is placed on
notice.
