PORTS — PRIVATISATION
655. Hon AMBER-JADE SANDERSON to the minister representing the Treasurer:
(1) Will the
sale of Fremantle port include the right for the purchaser to build a second
container port?
(2) If yes to (1), in what year will the purchaser be
required to open the new container port?
(3) Does the
government expect the sale contract will include any provisions that allow the
private operator to seek financial support from the government for any
maintenance or expansion work in the future?
(4) Who will be responsible for constructing and maintaining
road and rail links to —
(a) the new container port; and
(b) the existing container port?

As announced in the state budget, the government will pursue disposal of the
Fremantle port through a long-term lease. A number of issues will be considered
during the due diligence phase.
