(b) will the works be finished by that time; and (i) if the time has been extended, what is the reason; and (c) has the contractor asked for any variations to the original tender?
(b) MacMahon Contractors did not commence the roadworks until late April 2004 because of delayed access to State Forest land that was required for the roadworks. Access to the State Forest land required approval from both Houses of State Parliament and the Governor. Approval was given by the Lower House in December 2003 but approval by the Upper House and the Governor was not given until April 2004. The roadworks have also been delayed because of protests by representatives of the local environmental group EARTH, delays to Western Power service relocations and due to inclement weather. The construction program has been amended accordingly and the revised completion date is 31 May 2006. Major roadworks were put on hold from June to August 2005 because of the winter period and the risk of spreading dieback. Major roadworks recommenced early October 2005 (c) Yes.
