I am advised: (1) and (2) The New Living Program is designed to dismantle large public housing estates and the Department of Housing and Works has effectively achieved this through the many projects that have been implemented to date. The program has recently been extended to Moora and Narrogin. It is proposed to introduce it to Forrestfield when the Local Town Planning Scheme is amended. In 2004/05 the Department of Housing and Works initiated the Regional Upgrade Strategy aimed at constructing 800 new houses and refurbishing 200 existing houses over 4 years. This program targets country regions particularly the Great Southern, South West and Wheatbelt, and does include the Pilbara, Midwest/Gascoyne, Goldfields and Kimberly regions. (3) Community consultation is an important part of the planning process for the New Living program and is conducted through public meetings, workshops and newsletters.
