QuestionView source ↗
I refer the minister to comments made by Assistant Commissioner John McRoberts on 6PR radio this morning. He said that the member for Innaloo was stopped by up to five police cars on Thursday night last week in the northern suburbs because an officer observed him committing some traffic offences. (1) Will the minister please list all traffic and other offences that the member for Innaloo was observed committing? (2) If the member for Innaloo was observed committing traffic offences, why was he not charged? (3) Did the member for Innaloo identify himself to any of the attending officers as a member of Parliament? (4) Did the member for Innaloo act aggressively towards any of the attending police officers or at any time threaten any of them with legal action over the incident? (5) Perhaps most importantly, will the minister table all briefing notes and running sheets, including the original briefing note and running sheet, prepared on this incident? Mrs M.H. ROBERTS

I thank the member for Kalgoorlie for the question. How good it is to see him in the Chamber this week. I hope he can stay the whole week this time. Several members interjected. The SPEAKER: Order members! Mrs M.H. ROBERTS: As I think a member has already said by interjection, one really positive aspect of this question is that despite what members opposite say, clearly on Thursday night in the northern suburbs there were lots of police cars able to respond to an incident. That must be good news. I do thank the member for Kalgoorlie for some notice of this question and for asking me a question for the first time in a couple of months. As a result of the notice, I sought advice from the Western Australia Police Service and the answers that have been provided to me by the Police Service are as follows - (1) Failed to indicate, incorrect use of a signalling device and speeding. (2) The officer exercised his discretion to proceed by way of a traffic caution. (3) No. (4) No. (5) The Police Service advises that these documents are operational policing documents.
