I refer to the Heritage listed pylon located at Cottesloe Beach, which has fallen into a state of disrepair, and ask: (a) has the Town of Cottesloe approached your office or Department seeking assistance to maintain this significant heritage landmark, if so on what date/s did this occur; (b) has the Government offered any funding assistance toward the pylon: (i) if yes, how much funding has been provided for what specific purpose/s; and (ii) if no, why not; (c) what works or plan have been put in place by the Town of Cottesloe, Heritage Council, State Heritage Office or otherwise to protect the pylon; and (d) why has the debate on the Heritage Bill 2017 not progressed to ensure we have modern heritage legislation which prevents demolition by neglect: (i) when will debate on the Bill resume and when do you believe this Bill will be proclaimed?

(a) The Town of Cottesloe sought advice from the Heritage Council on 2 December 2016 on proposed stabilisation works to the pylon.
(b) No
(i) Not applicable
(ii) The Town of Cottesloe did not seek financial assistance from the Heritage Council.
(c) The Town of Cottesloe is undertaking stabilisation works to the pylon, which includes blast cleaning the submerged concrete surface area, cleaning the limestone seabed pocket, cutting back of protruding reinforcements, and installation of underwater grout collar.
(d) This is a matter for the Parliament. The Heritage Bill 2017 is a priority for the McGowan Labor Government. The Bill will be proclaimed after its passage through the Parliament and Regulations required by the Act have been prepared in consultation with stakeholders, approved and published.
