MARGARET
RIVER — SOCIAL HOUSING
802. Hon SALLY TALBOT to the
Minister for Housing:
I refer to the article in the Augusta-Margaret River Times of 29 May
headed ''Forum hears housing mix complicated''.
(1) Is the
minister concerned about the data collected by the Margaret River Community
Resource Centre that shows 43 homeless people are living in Margaret River?
(2) Does the
minister agree with the statement made by the Shire of Augusta–Margaret
River strategic project officer that the region's social housing stock
is ageing and often mismatched to clients?
(3) What is
the government doing to provide appropriate social housing and crisis
accommodation in the Margaret River region?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question. This has been in the file since 16 June, but I do not think it will
change the nature of the content.
(1) Although I
do not know how the data was collected by the Margaret River Community Resource
Centre, I am always concerned about homelessness.
(2) No.
(3) Two
dwellings will be constructed by August 2015, one in Cowaramup and one in
Margaret River. Additional to this, the state government has committed $560 million
to the social housing investment program to help house those on the priority
wait list.
