EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTRES
I refer to the Premier’s Statement, made on 15 February 2011, when he said — There are already a number of early childhood centres around the suburbs that have made amazing progress in blending early development programs with complementary services, such as child health and parenting, access to doctors, access to speech therapy, and so on. Can the Premier name one early childhood centre that includes the complementary services of child health and parenting, access to doctors, and access to speech therapy? Hon NORMAN MOORE

I thank the member for some notice of this question. Early childhood centres play an important role in our community. These centres provide early education programs that markedly improve the economic and social opportunities available to children later in life. The capacity of early childhood centres is enhanced by the provision of complementary services. An integrated approach to the provision of these services, such as the approach adopted by the Challis Early Childhood Education Centre, is an effective way to ensure that there are positive outcomes for young children. Hon Sue Ellery : He can’t name one, can he? Hon NORMAN MOORE : Did the member not listen to the answer?
