The Ministerial Advisory Council on Disability has three members who represent the rural/regional areas from the southwest to the northwest. Their profiles follow:
·
Wendy Dimer
(former member of the Disability Services Commission Board) lives in Kalgoorlie and represents people with disability, their families and carers who live in rural regional areas. Wendy is Aboriginal and therefore, she also represents Aboriginal people with disability. As well as representing rural/regional, Wendy works for the Department of Education in a Kalgoorlie school and has an in-depth understanding of the requirements of special needs students.
·
Samantha Connor
(who will retire at the end of 2014) lives in Toodyay and has represented people with disability, their families and carers who live in rural areas for the past four years. Samantha will be replaced by
Helen Wright
who commences on 1 January 2015.
· While Helen Wright now lives in Perth, she was a long term resident of the East Kimberley area and has an insider understanding of the difficulties faced by people living above the 26
th
parallel in Western Australia. She worked in the disability sector in East Kimberley and is a former Chair of the East Kimberley District Health Advisory Council and is a member of the National Rural Health Alliance Project Reference Group for the NDIS. It is this rural/regional perspective that Helen will represent as a Ministerial Advisory Council on Disability Councillor.
·
Jethro Hepton
lives in Bunbury and represents people with disability, their families and carers who live in the southwest area. Jethro is active in engaging with disability sector organisations throughout the southwest to foster strong working relationships between those organisations and the Ministerial Advisory Council on Disability
