FOSTER CARE REFRESH
PROJECT — KIMBERLEY CONSULTATION
1225. Hon NICK GOIRAN to the Leader of the House representing
the Minister for Child Protection:
I refer to the article headed ''Foster
carer 'crisis' talk to go ahead'' in the Broome
Advertiser of 8 October 2020 in which it was stated that the minister had
agreed to meet with foster carers in the region.
(1) Was the Kimberley region
included as part of the Foster Care Refresh program consultation?
(2) When is the Foster Care Refresh
report due to be completed and tabled?
(3) Given that the information obtained at the upcoming
meeting will be too late to be included in the Foster Care Refresh final
report, which, according to the website, is being finalised, will the minister
table a briefing note on the issues raised at the meeting with the Kimberley
carers?
(4) If no to (3),
why not?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) Yes.
(2)–(3) The Foster Care Refresh project was originally
scheduled to report in early 2020; however, the time frames were revised
to accommodate changes in consultation processes required as a result of
COVID-19 contact restrictions. The matters raised at the meeting of the foster
carers in the West Kimberley will be relayed to
the Department of Communities for incorporation into the final report, which is
scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
(4) Not applicable.
