I apologise to the Leader of the House because I did not realise until just now that this question has 11 parts. I think that is a bit excessive and I will talk to my research officer about that. I will ask only the first four questions. I refer to Cabinet’s decision on 15 September 2003 to axe the Safer WA program and replace it with the community safety and crime prevention council. (1) Can the minister advise the total amount of government funds expended on Safer WA for the financial years ending - (a) 2000; (b) 2001; (c) 2002; and (d) 2003? (2) Can the minister advise the total amount of government funds that are expected to be expended on the new CSCPCs for the financial years ending - (a) 2004; (b) 2005; (c) 2006; and (d) 2007? (3) Can the minister advise if each town will have its own CSCPC? (4) Can the minister advise if each district will have its own CSCPC? Hon KIM CHANCE

I thank Hon Derrick Tomlinson for notice of this question and advise that there is no need to apologise. The question is short and sharp and excuses the number of parts to it. In fact, it makes it somewhat easier to answer. However, the answer is quite short. (1) Safer WA is an independent incorporated body and will not be replaced by a community safety and crime prevention council. (a) Nil; (b) $207 000; (c) $305 000; and (d) $202 500. This does not include project funding that has been directed through Safer WA. (2)-(4) Not applicable.
