Vacant social housing—Geraldton
502. Hon Neil Thomson to
the parliamentary secretary representing the
Minister for Housing and Works:
I refer to the stock
of social housing in Geraldton.
(1) What is the total number of homes
currently available and, of those, how many are vacant and what is the average
time they have been vacant?
(2) How many homes require maintenance?
(3) How many homes are currently under construction?
(4) Is there a target for a total number
of homes and, if yes, what is the target?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. I provide the following on
behalf of the Minister for Housing and Works.
(1)–(4) As at 30 April 2026, 106 properties are
currently vacant in the City of Greater Geraldton, of which 64 are returning to
service and currently undergoing maintenance works or refurbishment or are in
the process of being relet. The average time vacant is 56 weeks, including
homes that require significant refurbishment. There are currently 32 social and
affordable homes under contract or construction in the City of Greater
Geraldton.
Unlike the Liberal–National opposition,
the Cook Labor government has a commitment to social and affordable housing and
has set a target for social housing.
