NATIVE VEGETATION — PRESCRIBED BURNS
I refer to the answer to question without notice 130 of 2010, particularly the statement that the current estimate of the number of years between prescribed burns across all vegetation types in the South West region is 13 years. What is the current estimate of the number of years between prescribed burns in — (a) jarrah forest in general; (b) karri forest in general; (c) wandoo forest; (d) wandoo woodland; and (e) coastal heath? Hon DONNA FARAGHER

I thank the member for some notice of this question. It is not possible to definitively answer the member’s question as the number of years between prescribed burns for each of the vegetation types identified varies significantly depending on a range of factors affecting the attributes of numerous individual parcels of land. I therefore would be happy to offer the member a briefing by senior Department of Environment and Conservation fire management staff on this matter.
