I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) The members of the committee are Mr Keiran McNamara, Department of Conservation and Land Management; Mr Michael Glendinning, Cedar Woods Properties Ltd; and Mr Clive Nealon, Birds Australia, WA Group. Environment Australia has not withdrawn from the committee. The former representative resigned from Environment Australia earlier this year and the agency has advised of its intention to continue its involvement. (2) The committee’s membership is consistent with the membership specified in condition 4-1(2) of the ministerial conditions governing implementation of the proposal. The question of replacing the Environment Australia representative does not arise. (3) During the period December 1998 to February 2000, a total of 17 surveys were conducted by consultant ecologists. The database comprising the results of these 17 surveys is used for comparative purposes, as are available data on waterbird population trends and rainfall from elsewhere in the State. (4) The survey conducted on 24 February 2000 counted 656 birds of 22 species. (5) Yes, but surveys are also conducted at other times for comparative purposes.
