PUBLIC SECTOR WAGES POLICY
492. Ms L. METTAM to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question.
After 15 years as the shadow Minister for Health, Minister for Health and now
Premier, why does the Premier support CFMEU workers above Western Australian
nurses?
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Order, please.
Premier.

Clearly,
I do not, because we already have some great outcomes in terms of our public
sector wages policies. We have already reached agreement with the State
School Teachers' Union of WA and other members of the public sector,
such as Public Transport Authority workers. We will continue to support public
sector unions for great outcomes.
Mr R.S. Love : When are you
going to give that $25 000 back?
The SPEAKER : Order, please,
members!
Mr R.H. COOK : When are you
going to give your Clive Palmer donations back? When are you going to give them
back? I remember that your predecessor used to travel the state in the private
jet with Uncle Clive, probably bouncing up and down on his knee! ''What
else shall we do, Clive? What else can we do on your behalf?'' The
National Party, in this context, is an enemy of the state, just like Clive
Palmer was back then.
We are producing great outcomes for
Western Australian workers, and we will continue to strive to do so. We will
make sure that those workers have the opportunity to negotiate in good faith,
and we will work with them and their union leadership to make sure we get
outcomes that they can be proud of. Only a WA Labor government can do that, and we can do it sustainably because we are
looking after the finances. We are very proud of the work that we are
doing with the public sector unions at the moment. I want to congratulate the
Minister for Industrial Relations on steering us through a very important group
of negotiations. I very much look forward to more public sector unions signing
up as a result of those great discussions.
