MENTAL HEALTH ASSESSMENTS — BUNBURY
750. Hon ADELE FARINA to the
Minister for Mental Health:
(1) Is it the
case that there is no capacity in Bunbury for a mental health assessment to be
carried out locally on a child facing the Children's Court in Bunbury
and that the child is required to be transferred to a secure ward in Perth?
(2) Why is the
south west child and adolescent mental health service unable to conduct such a
mental health assessment?
(3) Is Bunbury Hospital authorised by legislation to conduct
mental health assessments?
(4) Why are
mental health assessments on children and adults facing court in Bunbury not
being carried out by Bunbury Hospital?

I thank the member for some notice of the question. The
response that has been given to me by the Department of Health is not adequate.
I will get back to the member with a better response when I have received one.
