Mr Roger Cook replied:I can inform the
house that the average spend for families under the KidSport voucher is about
$250, so $300 is obviously an important provision to make sure that families
can get the help when they need it. I can imagine that some kids do not need
the full $300. I can imagine that if a kid is playing ice hockey or is a hockey
goalie, they probably need a little more assistance, but we are the ones who
doubled the KidSport vouchers to have that uplift in 2023 from $150 to $300.In addition to that,
I might just remind those opposite that WA student assistance payments are
available today to families with school-age kids. They can apply for $150 for a
primary or kindergarten student or $250 for every high school student. They
have until 4 July to make that application. We have already had significant
uptake; over 260,000 families across Western Australia have taken advantage of
that. We are ahead of the last round that we did of this and I invite and
expect those opposite, if they care about kids and families and helping them
with the cost of living, to put this on their social media platforms and
accounts. They should go to their communities and promote the WA student
assistance payment if they are serious about helping WA families. I will be
checking all their Facebook sites tomorrow. I will be looking. I will look up
the Leader of the National Party's TikTok account and see what little struts he
has got going. I am going to make sure that they are advertising the WA student
assistance payment, because according to the member for Roe, they care about
these things. I will be looking at the member for Roe's Facebook site—it
is not that interesting—and I will check that he has promoted the WA
student assistance payment to ensure that Western Australian families get the cost-of-living
relief from the Cook WA Labor government that they deserve.
