Regarding the ban on smoking within Department of Health facilities, I ask — (1) Has the Department of Health provided assistance to non-government organisations and community groups co-located in Department of Health facilities to implement the changes required to be compliant with the new rules? (2) If no to (1), why not? (3) If yes to (1), what assistance? Hon SUE ELLERY

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. (1) Yes. (2) Not applicable. (3) The Department of Health undertook pre-implementation planning processes that included meetings with all non-government organisations co-located with Department of Health facilities to develop strategies to support the implementation of the smoke-free policy. The changes required to be compliant include that smoking is not permitted in the buildings or grounds of Department of Health sites. “No smoking” signage and information is being made available to non-government organisations. Department of Health staff continue to work with community organisations on a case-by-case basis to support staff and consumers who are co-located with health facilities.
