913. Hon Jim Scott to the Attorney General representing the Minister for the Environment:
(1) Is the Minister for the Environment aware that Long Swamp in Kwinana was originally proposed for inclusion in the Beeliar Regional Park in the 1992 Planning Study?
(2) Why therefore has it been excluded from the current area which is being managed by CALM?
(3) As a result of the FRIARS Report and the Hope Valley-Wattleup Redevelopment Bill, will Long Swamp be conserved and protected and included in the Beeliar Regional Park, as originally proposed?
(4) If not, why not?

The Minister Replied:
(1) The Minister understands that Long Swamp was not included in the recommended boundaries of Beeliar Regional Park in the 1992 Planning Study, however, it was proposed as a landscape protection area.
(2) Long Swamp is currently not managed by the Department of Conservation and Land Management as it is private property.
(3) Long Swamp is currently protected under Environmental Protection (Swan Coastal Plain Lakes) Policy 1992. Its inclusion into the park will be investigated through State Government planning processes.
(4) Not applicable.
