(1) A project is currently being undertaken by the Northwest Mental Health Service ( NWMHS )to plan for the development of a range of community support services including supported accommodation and respite programs, and carer/family support programs for people throughout the North West region. Funds will be allocated to the region once this project is finalised. (2) The allocation of these services across the region will be determined by a range of factors including client demographics, location of current services and the availability of suitable providers. (3) Please see answers above. (4) (a) A feasibility study will be undertaken on the need for a rooming in unit in Carnarvon. Capital funding is approved to commence this financial year for facility planning and flow on to next financial year for construction. (b) Derby Rooming In Unit - this project is currently out to public tender by CAMS for appointment of a building contractor. Tenders closed on Tuesday the 29th August 2000. (c) Kununurra Rooming In Unit - this project is now completed and the new building was handed over to the NWMHS on the 14th August 2000. (5) The NWMHS will shortly assess the possibility of a unit at Port Hedland. No capital funding has yet been approved. (6) Access to rooming-in units is determined according to the clinical decision of the admitting specialist mental health staff and bed availability.
