LEGISLATION AMENDMENT AND REPEAL BILL 2023 — TWO-BILL SPLIT
646. Mr R.S. LOVE to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question.
Given that the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs was providing amendments to the
legislation as late as last Thursday, does the Premier think it would be in the
best interests of the state to split the bill to ensure that we do not end up
with another piece of botched legislation?

Clearly,
I do not. We wanted to make sure that the opposition had the opportunity to see
the substance of the bill as early as possible, and that was the reason
we introduced the bill at the earliest possible opportunity. As we continued to make sure that we fully understood
the need for amendments and the subsequent regulations, of c ourse there
have been adjustments. That is not unusual in any legislative process and it is
as the Leader of the Opposition would expect.
