FUELWATCH SCHEME
Can the minister advise the House how successful the FuelWatch system has been in helping consumers to buy the cheapest fuel available? Mr KOBELKE

The FuelWatch scheme has been very successful and later on I will table a brochure that has been distributed to the public. It seeks to inform the public of how successful the scheme has been and to acknowledge that it has been successful because of public involvement. That is shown by the fact that we have had 17 million hits on the Internet site and over 16 000 telephone calls from people seeking the price of fuel. Daily petrol, diesel, liquefied petroleum gas and autogas prices are available for the metropolitan area and 75 per cent of regional outlets. A recent survey found that 96 per cent of respondents were either satisfied, or very satisfied, with the FuelWatch service and over half a million people view FuelWatch on television to find out where they can get the cheapest fuel. This has led to a change in market behaviour in that people are willing to drive that bit further to make a choice. That is providing an element of market competition that has not previously been there. People in Western Australia are getting lower prices. Mr Omodei interjected. Mr KOBELKE: The member for Warren-Blackwood feels like walking again. He does not seem to be able to get far without pulling a stunt; we will leave the stunts to him. This Government is about delivering results to people whereas his Government removed all regulations, did nothing for eight years and did not give a tinker’s about motorists. We are putting in place a system that is working. It has a long way to go, particularly for regional motorists, but we have delivered for the metropolitan motorist, as we will for regional motorists in Western Australia.
