the minister representing the Minister for Commerce:
I
refer to Legislative Assembly question on notice 5402 answered on 16 October
2019, which stated that Consumer Protection was developing an options
paper related to the partial transfer of regulatory responsibility for the
towing industry from the Department of Transport to Consumer Protection.
(1) What progress has been made on
the options paper?
(2) What industry and community consultation on the tow
truck industry has been undertaken by Consumer Protection between 16
October 2019 and 10 August 2020?
(3) When will the options paper be
finalised?
(4) When will the options paper be
considered by the state government?

The Minister for Commerce has
provided me with this answer.
(1) The
consultation regulatory impact statement paper outlining options for regulation
of the tow truck industry was released on 11 August 2020.
(2)–(3) Refer to (1).
(4) The outcome
of consultation that is currently underway will inform the next stage of the
review that will be in the form of a decision regulatory impact statement. It
is anticipated that this will be finalised by the end of the year.
