695. Hon PHIL EDMAN to the
minister representing the Minister for State Development:
I refer to the Western Australian International Trade and
Investment Office in China, and concerns among members of Western Australian
industries that have been unable to contact the regional director, China, for
some months. I should probably also note that we signed a free trade agreement
with China.

(1) Is the role of regional
director, China, currently occupied?
(2) If yes to (1) —
(a) is the regional director
currently based in the China office; and
(b) what reasons can be provided for
the inability of industry to contact the regional director?

(1) Yes.
(2) (a) The regional director has
had a period of leave and is about to return to Shanghai.
(b) During the
time the regional director has been on leave, the Shanghai office has been in
operation.
