(2) The Department of Education, in providing new schools, consults with the local school community as part of the planning process. Environmental issues are discussed within this process and the design of the school layout is adjusted to minimize any uncovered movement around the school. (3) The Department provides existing schools with funding for minor works as part of the financial grant received by the school. Many schools have utilised this funding to provide small building works such as covered walkways.
