DISASTER RECOVERY
FUNDING ARRANGEMENTS — PILBARA
891. Hon MARTIN ALDRIDGE to the Minister for Emergency Services:
I refer to the media release issued
on 7 October 2022 announcing that disaster recovery funding arrangements have
been activated for flood-affected communities in the Pilbara.
(1) Where should
impacted residents, businesses or local governments find information regarding
disaster recovery assistance?
(2) Why does the Department of Fire and Emergency
Services' Emergency WA recovery webpage not include information
on this activated event, or other activated events such as the flooding in the
midwest and Gascoyne regions in March and April?
(3) Is the
minister aware that the link in the media statement directs people to the
commonwealth government Disaster Assist webpage; and, if so, why is this the
case?
(4) What
category of assistance has been made available for this event?
(5) Can the
minister please table the DRFA funding request from the state government to the
commonwealth in relation to this activation?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question.
(1) Information
on disaster recovery assistance is available on the DFES website. I am happy to
provide it at a later stage to the honourable member.
(2) Emergency
WA is used only when disaster recovery funding arrangements WA categories C and
D are activated.
(3) The media
statement is a joint media statement between the commonwealth and the state
government. The normal protocol for these joint media statements is to refer to
the commonwealth's Disaster Assist website. A link is provided from the
Disaster Assist website to the DFES recovery webpage.
(4) Category A
and B assistance has been made available for this event.
(5) No funding
requests have been made to the commonwealth government under these activations
as at 12 October 2022.
