Fire and emergency services—Volunteers—Workers
compensation
444. Hon Rob Horstman to
the minister representing the Minister for Emergency
Services:
I refer to the Workers Compensation and Injury Management Act 2023 and associated regulations, which provide career firefighters with statutory
protections, including a 120-day timeframe under regulation 19 for the
determination of compensation claims.
Given that volunteer
firefighters, who face the same occupational health risks, do not have access
to equivalent statutory timeframes and often encounter administrative delays,
what steps is the government taking to address this disparity and ensure that
volunteer firefighters are not left in administrative limbo when seeking
support for occupational illnesses, including cancers linked to firefighting duties?
