TIER 3
RAIL LINES — CLOSURE — ROAD UPGRADES
660. Hon KEN TRAVERS to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the road upgrades to handle increased truck
traffic following the closure of tier 3 rail lines.
(1) Have all
upgrade works been completed on the Quairading–Cunderdin road, the
Trayning–Kellerberrin road and the Nungarin–Merredin road?
(2) If no, what work is still to be undertaken?
(3) Has the government had any
complaints about the upgrade work?
(4) What impact will the failure to
complete any work have on-road safety once the tier 3 lines close?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question.
(1) Works are
still progressing on the Quairading–Cunderdin road, the Trayning–Kellerberrin
road and the Nungarin–Merredin road.
(2) Approximately
six kilometres of road within the Shire of Quairading remains to be upgraded on
the Quairading–Cunderdin road. During the coming summer school
holidays, the Shire of Cunderdin will also complete off-road parking
improvements at the high school to reduce local traffic/pedestrian conflict
with grain trucks. Approximately 15 kilometres of the road within the Shire of
Trayning remains to be upgraded on the Trayning–Kellerberrin road. An
upgrade of the Goomalling Merredin–Goldfields Road intersection on the
Nungarin–Merredin road will be undertaken once Western Power has
completed service relocations at this intersection.
(3) Prior to
the works being completed, some complaints were received. Since the completion
of these works, Main Roads WA is not aware of any further complaints.
(4) There will be little impact as the majority of works have
been completed on these roads.
