Dr. Pettitt questions the Minister's claim of sufficient urban land supply, given the proposed Banjup urbanisation not identified in previous planning frameworks. The Minister deflects, stating his comments referred to land supply from resolved Planning Investigation Areas and that the amendment was initiated by the WAPC.

In August
2023 the WA Labor Government announced the “resolution of the last two Planning
Investigation Areas.” Planning and Lands
Minister, John Carey was quoted as saying, "These final two outcomes
complete an extensive planning exercise to ensure our city has sufficient land
to accommodate for future urban growth, while also accounting for key
infrastructure and services”. I ask: (a) does
the Minister stand by his statement that “…our city has sufficient land to
accommodate for future urban growth”; (b) if yes to (a),
then what is the need to urbanise Banjup (as in MRS Amendment 1437) when
it was never identified in Planning Investigation Areas or the Perth @ 3.5
million planning framework; and (c) if no to (a), why not?
