POLARIS METALS — CARINA MINE
897. Hon ROBIN CHAPPLE to the minister representing the
Minister for Environment:
I refer to Polaris Metals' operation of its Carina
mine in the great western woodlands.
(1) Was the
Carina mine recently inspected by officers of the Department of Environment and
Conservation?
(2) Were the
DEC officers satisfied that the company had complied with all its environmental
conditions pertaining to the mine?
(3) Will the minister release the DEC officers'
report into the mining operations?
(4) If no to (3), why not?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for some notice of this question.
(1) Department
of Environment and Conservation officers accompanied the Department of Mines
and Petroleum during an inspection.
(2) DEC
identified a number of noncompliances with the conditions in Carina mines'
Environmental Protection Act 1986 licence.
(3) No.
(4) The
documentation of the site visit is in the form of a file note and as DEC is
aware that DMP is investigating the noncompliances, it is not appropriate to
release the file note.
