I was advised by the Minister for Education and Training in answer to my question of 23 June 2004 on the Gillingarra community non-standard education building that the building would remain on-site. However, I was told that the decision on community use of the building would be made by the Department for Planning and Infrastructure. Will the minister please advise whether the Department for Planning and Infrastructure is prepared to write-off the cost of the building and to give it at no charge to the Gillingarra community? Hon KEN TRAVERS

I thank the member for some notice of this question. Although notice of the question was given in July, the answer is current as of today, to the best of my knowledge. The Department for Planning and Infrastructure is currently liaising with the Shire of Victoria Plains on the taking of a management order over the old school site in Gillingarra. The Department for Planning and Infrastructure believes that the main fixed buildings on the site will remain at no cost, to be used by whoever manages the reserve in the future. There is one transportable building on-site, which is the asset currently at issue. The Department of Education and Training has responsibility for the asset in question. The Department for Planning and Infrastructure has written to the Department of Education and Training to determine its plans for this asset. The Department of Education and Training has advised that it will give the building to the Gillingarra community at no cost.
