MINISTER FOR PLANNING AND INFRASTRUCTURE
I refer the minister to the Premier’s media statement dated 8 March 2001 in which he is quoted as saying that his decision to strip Alannah MacTiernan, the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure, of her road safety responsibilities after the minister’s appalling and irresponsible driving record was revealed “would not require any legislative changes”. I ask the Minister - (1) Was the Premier correct in his assertion that his decision would not require any legislative changes; and, if not, can the minister inform the House what legislative changes will have to be made as a result of the Premier’s decision? (2) What will be the total cost to the Western Australian taxpayer of these legislative changes? Mrs ROBERTS

(1) There will be changes in the development of the new Department of Planning and Infrastructure. Those changes are being made because of the machinery of government review and would occur in any event. The changes that are taking place to establish the Department of Planning and Infrastructure arise out of the machinery of government review. (2) That is not a relevant question in the circumstances.
