I refer to question on notice No. 1923 of 2004. As mentioned to the Public Servant who rang my office to point out that there were several John Mitchells, the one about who information is sought is the one who was Chief Executive Officer of the Rottnest Island Authority -
(1) What was the salary and benefits paid to Mr Mitchell while he was Chief Executive Officer of the Rottnest Island Authority?
(2) Has this Mr Mitchell or a company associated with him been awarded contracts with the Department of Justice?
(3) If so, what are those contracts, and in particular -
(a) what is the work to be performed;
(b) what is the agreed contract price; and
(c) what are the dates during which it is to be performed?
(4) Is the Minister able to ascertain whether this Mr Mitchell or any company associated with him have contracts with any other Department?
(5) If there are, can you give similar details of those contracts?

(1) Immediately prior to his departure from the public service on 25 October 2002, Mr Mitchell received the following annual remuneration package: - Salary of $139,376 - Employer superannuation contribution of $12,544 - Provision of a fully maintained motor vehicle (2) Yes (3) (a) – (c) Since leaving Government, Mr Mitchell has been engaged on two contracts by the Department of Justice. He is currently contracted to review management, administration and work practices at Bandyup and Hakea Prisons. The contract is capped at a total cost of $110,000. The contract commenced 11 August 2003 and expires 10 August 2004. From 16 July 2003 to 13 August 2003, he was engaged to undertake an annual performance review of Acacia Prison at a cost of $22,275. (4) Details of all contracts across Government are not maintained by the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, however the Department has no record of any payments to Mr S J Mitchell from 25 October 2002 to 13 May 2004. (5) Not applicable.
