I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) Final year scholarships of $40 000 are available to those people who are completing a teaching qualification in 2006 and who will qualify to teach mathematics, physical sciences, design and technology, home economics, Indonesian, Japanese or Italian. Immediately upon completion of the teaching qualification, scholarship holders are required to accept the offered position with the Department of Education and Training in a geographical area of need for a continuous period of three years. (2) The $40 000 scholarships have been offered for the first time in 2006. Prior scholarships were $20 000, $30 000 or a lesser amount when partial scholarships were offered. Thirty scholarships have been taken up in 2006 in the following areas - (a) mathematics, eight; (b) physical science, eight; (c) languages, eight; and (d) home economics, three. Three design and technology scholarships were also offered in 2006. (3) In 2006 all scholarship holders were required to work for three years in a government school in a rural location. Prior scholarships had varying contract times, depending on whether a full or partial scholarship was received. I seek leave to have the table contained in the answer incorporated into Hansard. Leave granted. [See paper 1415.] The following material was incorporated - Year 1 Year Contract 2 Year Contract 3 Year Contract 2002 56 9 0 2003 2 85 6 2004 3 69 22 2005 2 9 32 2006 0 0 30 (4) Yes. According to my notes, clause 2.1.4 of the 2006 scholarship contract states - Upon completion, be available for full-time employment with the Department for a continuous period of at least three (3) years beginning in January 2007 and, if offered employment by the department to teach anywhere in the State, accept that offer
