My question relates to the ministerial statement of 12 September 2002 concerning the rail service changes at Loch Street and Grant Street stations. (1) Has the review into weekend rail services to these two stations, as promised in the statement, been concluded? (2) If not, why not; and, if yes, what were the findings of the review? (3) Has the review into the effectiveness of the shuttle bus service, promised within six months of the statement, been concluded? (4) If yes to (3), what were the findings? (5) What are the current patronage figures for the bus service from Loch Street and Grant Street stations to other stations? Hon KEN TRAVERS

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1)-(5) Subsequent to the ministerial statement in September 2002, further discussions ensued with the Town of Claremont and the general community, which resulted in the implementation of substantial changes to the original arrangements by the Public Transport Authority of Western Australia. Early in December 2002, hourly services after 7.00 pm on weekends were introduced to Grant Street, Swanbourne, Loch Street and Karrakatta stations. I add that I was at the newly upgraded Swanbourne station yesterday. In addition to this alteration to the evening weekend services, an hourly service that stops at Loch Street and Grant Street stations during the day on weekends was also introduced. With the introduction of these added train services, it was no longer necessary to consider supplementary bus shuttle services. These changes to the train services were introduced on a trial basis for a further 12 months to gauge public acceptance. It is noted that public complaint levels quickly diminished to zero shortly after these alterations to services were introduced.
