Page 565 of the 2012-13 Budget papers relates to the Western Australian Planning Commission. The following answers are provided in respect of management of Bush Forever sites by the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC).
(1)-(2) DEC currently manages all or part of 120 Bush Forever sites (68 whole sites and parts of 52 sites). [see tabled paper no] detailing Bush Forever sites managed by DEC as at June 2012. Volume 1 of Bush Forever (Government of Western Australia 2000,
Bush Forever Volume 1, Policies, Principles and Processes
, Western Australian Planning Commission, Perth, Western Australia) contains maps showing the locations of all Bush Forever sites.
(3) Budgeting is not done at the level of individual Bush Forever sites. Rather it is done for broader groupings of DEC-managed land, through the budgets for the Nature Conservation, Parks and Visitor Services, and Sustainable Forest Management services.
In 2011-12 DEC allocated approximately $2.5 million to land management in the area of its Swan Region containing Bush Forever sites.
(4) DEC has consistent signage for lands under its management. No funding has been allocated by DEC for specific Bush Forever signage.
(5) DEC delivers a number of community and school-based environmental education programs which relate to the importance of Perth's biodiversity including Bush Forever sites, including the Nearer to Nature, Healthy Parks Healthy People, Eco-Education and Urban Nature programs. DEC also provides interpretive information at visitor sites and provides information in publications and on its website. In addition, other agencies and organisations deliver programs which relate to the importance of Perth's biodiversity, including programs run by local governments (such as the Perth Biodiversity Program and local initiatives), Perth Region NRM and community-based conservation groups.
(6) Budgeting is not done at the level of individual Bush Forever sites. The following estimates are provided:
(a) This site is not managed by DEC.
(b) Expenditure on management of Jandakot Regional Park, which includes Bush Forever site 342, was approximately $38 000 in each of 2009-10 and 2010-11, and is forecast to be similar in 2012-13.
(c) Approximately $36 000 in 2009-10 plus additional funding of $122 000 to replace a boardwalk, $18 000 in 2010-11 and forecast $18 000 in 2012-13. The reduction in funding for the site follows a significant period of targeted investment in new facilities and maintenance works that has now been completed.
(d) Approximately $30 000 in each of 2009-10 and 2010-11, and forecast $30 000 in 2012-13.
(e) This site is not managed by DEC.
