On 10 March 1998 the member for Midland and then shadow Minister for Police, Michelle Roberts, asked the following question of the then Minister for Police - Last year the Minister advised this House that a joint Western Australia Police Service-Australian Federal Police inquiry into corruption allegations by former detective Frank Scott had been completed. (1) What is the outcome of that investigation? (2) Will the Minister table that report in Parliament; and, if not, why not? As the member for Midland is now the Minister for Police and Emergency Services, I would like to ask - (1) What is the outcome of that investigation? (2) Will the minister now table the report in Parliament; and, if not, why not? Hon NICK GRIFFITHS

I thank the member for some notice of the question. I note that in asking the question he used the words “I would like to ask”. I know he enjoyed asking the question. May I give the answer in the same spirit? (1) The investigation was completed on 17 September 1997 by the Australian Federal Police. I am advised that the report identified 44 recommendations. Recommendations 1 to 25, 28 to 42 and 44 require no further action. Recommendation 43 was referred to the Anti-Corruption Commission and resolved in 1998, having been found to be unsubstantiated. Recommendation 26 was referred to the assistant commissioner (crime operations), and recommendation 27 was referred to the homicide squad. (2) The Police Service advises that because it is an Australian Federal Police report and the investigation was one of a number of matters communicated by the Police Service to the Royal Commission Into Whether There Has Been Any Corrupt or Criminal Conduct by Western Australian Police Officers for its information, it would be inappropriate for the report to be tabled.
