Burswood Park motorplex
93. Mr Basil Zempilas to the Premier:
I have a
supplementary question.
What is the purpose
of community consultation if the Premier is not going to listen to the
community with which he consults?

AnswerView source ↗

It is about the
design of the project. It is about how it looks, where people want to see the
environment enhanced, where they want to see—
Several members
interjected.
The Speaker: Leader of the Opposition, you have asked
the question. It is the Premier's turn to respond. Carry on, Premier.
Mr Roger Cook: It is about how people want to see that
infrastructure interact with the community. We want to talk to the cycling
groups and find out what their interests are, and we want to talk to the music
industry to understand how it may want to use the facility. Obviously, we want
to talk to local residents, some of whom do not agree with this project.
Mr Basil Zempilas: All of them.
Mr Roger Cook: The vast majority do support it. That
is what the Leader of the Opposition does not understand. This is an important
project. It is one that the music industry, for instance, greatly endorses. The
CEO of West Australian Music said:
A 15,000 to 20,000 person outdoor venue
will put Perth back on the map for international and national tours, which
often miss WA.
This is a great
opportunity to bring terrific music events to Perth, to continue to stage great
festivals and to continue to make sure that it is a vibrant part of our
environment. We are inviting feedback from the community about the design and
how it comes together. We think it is overwhelmingly supported by the community.
