I refer to the so-called dispersal laws currently being considered by the Western Australia Police due to an apparent abundance of police officers, and ask:
(a) what is the approved strength of the Western Australia Police force as at 28 September 2011;
(b) what is the actual strength of the Western Australia Police force as at 28 September 2011;
(c) what is the operational strength of the Western Australia Police as at 28 September 2011;
(d) if there is an abundance of police officers why are local police stations not open to the public after hours and on weekends; and
(e) if there is an abundance of police officers why are more officers not deployed to increase the resources of the Regional Operations Group?

(d) Each District has one 24 hour complex and a front counter service to support members of the public attending the facility. Members of the public do not always need to attend a police station. All police stations within a District supply a tasking component which operates 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week. The opening hours of community access to a customer service officer at a police station is becoming increasingly unnecessary as traffic crash reports; firearm licence applications and police clearance certificates are now completed at Australia Post Offices or 'on-line'.
The WA Police website also provides a range of information and online forms. Police assistance and attendance can be facilitated 24 hours, 7 days a week by telephoning the Police Assistance Centre (PAC) on 131444. Members of the public can also call the Crime Stoppers line, 1800 333 000 to report criminal activity. The 000 number is available for an emergency, life-threatening situation, or when urgent police assistance is needed e.g. a serious crime is in progress, being witnessed or just committed, or a situation where life or serious injury is threatened.
(e) As of 1 November 2011 additional police officers will be deployed to the Regional Operations Group.
