The regional paediatrician is based in Derby when on-call and not conducting remote clinics, however the Health Service has facilitated the relocation of his family to Broome as part of a retention strategy. The public health physician position, which had been vacant has been transferred from Derby to Broome and filled. A new general physician position has been created in Broome and filled. (2) One (1) Accounts Payable FTE was transferred from Derby to Broome in June 2003. (3) In emergency situations, patients are transported to either Broome or Derby depending on the location of the on-call specialist. This patient referral process also takes into account the location of any specialists providing remote clinics to ensure efficient delivery of services. (4) The housing cost to the Department in transferring existing positions and creating new positions in Broome has been approximately $30,000. Relocation of positions from Derby to Broome has assisted clinical recruitment and retention strategies for the Kimberley region.
