PICKERING BROOK — METROPOLITAN REGION SCHEME
AMENDMENT
734. Ms M.J. DAVIES to the Minister for Planning:
I have a supplementary question.
When will the residents of Pickering Brook, who have patiently worked with the government and the local member over the last
eight years in good faith, be any the wiser on this Labor government's plan for their proposed town site?

As the member would be aware, there
are complexities around this issue. To enable further urban development, there
are constrictions regarding water infrastructure. I need to be very clear on
this. Any decision that we make when making zoning changes must also give
consideration to the future demands and pressures in relation to
infrastructure, and that includes water supply for that area. As I said when I answered
the first part of the question, I understand people's aspirations,
whether for urban development or it can be the opposite—whether people
want to see land set aside for conservation. With regard to this particular
issue, it is more complex than the member is making out and, in particular, it
is constrained in relation to water supply.
