BIOSECURITY GROUPS —
ANNUAL REPORT REQUIREMENTS
692. Hon RICK MAZZA to the Minister for Agriculture and
Food:
I refer to biosecurity groups
recognised under section 169 of the Biosecurity and Agriculture Management Act
that control declared pests in a prescribed area as part of the declared pest
rate scheme.
(1) What
reporting requirements are put on biosecurity groups for income, expenditure
and activities undertaken?
(2) Are these
reports made public; and, if so, when?
(3) What
activities do biosecurity groups undertake as part of their reporting?

AnswerView source ↗

(1) Recognised
biosecurity groups are required to submit annual reports and audited financial
statements. This is carried out under section 170 of the Biosecurity and
Agriculture Management Act 2007. The Department of Primary Industries and
Regional Development works with the RBGs to continuously improve these
processes.
(2) Yes. Reports
submitted under section 170 of the BAM act are required under section 171 to be
published on the department's electronic website. RBGs are required to
submit reports by 31 October.
(3) The reports
cover both operational and strategic plans. Reports are presented to the RBG
committees at their respective annual general meetings and distributed to the
wider community through RBG networks. The department works with the RBGs to
build their capacity in planning and reporting.
