shops to transition to shelter dog rehoming centres and ask: (a) What steps will be in place to ensure the process is economically viable for pet shops; and (b) Has the Minister, his department or the stop puppy farming working group received evidence from dog shelters that they support the rehoming centre process considering they are already providing that service: (i) What was the evidence received?

(a) The process and timing for transitioning pet shops to adoption centres is under consideration.
(b) In response to an online survey undertaken during consultation on the ‘stop puppy farming’ proposals, 89 per cent of respondents who stated that they were employed or volunteered for a pet rescue or shelter organisation supported the proposal to transition pet shops into adoption centres.
(i) Forty six per cent of the above respondents indicated that they would become accredited to provide rescue dogs to pet shops;
Twenty nine per cent were unsure;
Nineteen per cent indicated that they would not become accredited to provide rescue dogs to pet shops;
Six per cent indicated that it would be dependent on specific factors.
