On commencement of train services, a further 34 transit guards, working individually, are deployed to the trains with an additional 29 Customer Service Assistants providing station safety and customer service. After 7pm, an additional 22 train riding transit guards, travelling in pairs, are added to the system. These 22 are also supported by 10 transit guards who provide mobile response, together with another 17 who are engaged in station security and customer service. (c) Staffing levels on Friday are the same as (a) and (b). Saturday and Sunday staffing levels are also essentially the same with the exception of those engaged in station security. Station security on Saturday consists of 17 transit guards and there are 13 on Sundays. On these days, 32 transit guards provide evening and night train riding duties combined with mobile response, while 19 cover early morning trains. (d) No. (e) Transit Guards are provided with appropriate time at the end of each shift to attend to incident reports. It is our experience that the majority of transit guards are experiencing, on average, one report to write per shift and, again on average, a report would be in the order of 100-150 words in length. The inclusion of this responsibility within their duties was an important factor in their attaining their wage classification when the position was created. The following allocations are defined as times at the end of the shift where Transit Guards have completed his/her train riding or mobile response duties: · Train riding during the day provision for a maximum allocation of 45 minutes with a minimum of 15 minutes. An average would be 26 minutes per shift. · Train riding during at night provision for a maximum allocation of 45 minutes with a minimum of 15 minutes. An average allocation would be 19 minutes. · Delta mobile response a minimum allocation of 10 minutes. However must be remembered that these guards are station-based and that the station has the facilities available for them to complete reports during the course of the shift, which is in contrast to train riding transit guards. The Security and Customer Service Manager has been instructed to reiterate to all staff the purpose of this time toward the end of each shift and to ensure that all staff are aware of this allowance.
