NAMBI VILLAGE
510. Hon ROBIN CHAPPLE to the minister representing
the Minister for Local Government:
I refer to the answer to question on
notice number 116 on 16 June 2013, about Nambi Village in Leonora, situated on
reserve 41510. As the land is not rateable, can the minister explain why the
occupants of Nambi Village have been served with rates demands and have been
paying the rates for the past number of years? That is C449.

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of this question.
The Shire of Leonora has confirmed that the land occupied by
Nambi Village is not rateable under the provisions of the Local Government Act
1995. The annual charges levied relate to an arrangement made in about 2004
with Goldfields Indigenous Housing Organisation Inc that Nambi Village would be
regularly cleared of abandoned vehicles and general litter if the property was
rated similarly to other gross rental value properties within the town site.
Although no payment has been received for the past two years, as recently as
April 2013 Goldfields Indigenous Housing Organisation Inc requested the removal
of nine vehicles from street verges and eight vehicles from backyards.
