I refer to the proposed legislation to ban pet shops
selling puppies and ask since 2000: (a) How many puppy farms have been prosecuted for
operating in WA; (b) Of the puppy farms prosecuted how many were found to
be supplying to a pet shop; (c) How many pet shops have been prosecuted in WA for
selling dogs from a puppy farm; and (d) How many pet shops in WA have been prosecuted for offences relating to the keeping of puppies?

(a-c) ‘Puppy farms’ are not recognised under Western Australian law.
(d) Prosecutions relating to animal welfare are taken under the Animal Welfare Act 2002 . The Minister responsible is the Minister for Agriculture and Food.
